Revision Strategy

Revision portion is very important as far as JEE preparation is concerned. Human brain is not a 64 GB memory card. You can't store everything at once especially when it comes to inorganic chemistry and practical organic chemistry.
JEE syllabus is huge and they test your memorizing power too!!
There are certain topics that are supposed to be revised frequently. You should do the same for the topics that you forget easily. For me, inorganic chemistry (especially p-block) and practical organic chemistry were such topics. Besides there were some formulae in modern physics and integration that needed a regular revision. For formulas, it is advisable to make a notebook containing all the necessary details. It helps a lot. And don't forget to revise the same on every weekend. You will realize that after say a couple of weekends, you are perfectly fine with those topics. This is the general revision strategy to be followed for entire JEE preparation.

Coming to the revision strategy after syllabus is completed. All I can say is solve solve and solve as many problems as you can from all topics. This will help you in 4 ways :

  • your speed will improve
  • your accuracy will improve
  • No need of explicit revision
  • your weak points will come ahead
now after knowing your weak areas, try to solve more and more problems from these portions.
In my case it was Permutations and Combinations, Modern Physics and Thermodynamics and of course a large portion of chemistry because I was relatively weak in that subject.
These chapters will decide your rank because these are the portions where most people are weak so if you cover these, then that would definitely give you an edge over others.
You can also go for specialized revision packages like the ones provided by FIITJEE(GMP + RTPF) or Resonance(Rank Booster).
Joining a test series helps a lot. If you are confident of getting say an under 100 rank then FIITJEE would be a good option but FIITJEE test series might prove to be a disaster because it too tough and far above JEE level. Resonance test series is a good option , although I never tried it.
Go ahead and Crack It!!!

  1. how did u manage to complete resonance material besides doing fiitjee material and other books u have written below in ur blog....? i'm asking because i have also joined fiitjee and a correspondnce course of vidyamandir classes and i'm not able to do them simultaneously......

    1. As mentioned earlier, I didn't attend the school so I had plenty of time to cover a variety of material.

    2. Can u please be a little more precise? like what order did u follow to complete - Fiitjee material, resonance material, NCERT and other extra material like jd lee, hc verma etc.......

  2. I completed FIITJEE RSM + GMP.
I bought Resonance material but didn't do it.
NCERT is a must. JD Lee is no more needed as far as JEE is concerned.

    1. I'm sorry but i'm a bit confused. Taught a topic in class, first u did fiitjee RSM, Then ncert and then extra material if u got time..r u trying to say this? and i'm sorry to say but don't u think its a bit strange that u joined a correspondence course of resonance and did not do the material......And earlier u said in ur post that u did jd lee and now u are saying that it is not needed...why so?

      Delete
    2. see i covered FIITJEE RSM around 3 months prior to jee. this was done because it was a revision strategy.
If u r in class 11th, then just focus on books and your coaching material now.
I didn't purchase resonance correspondence course. i just bought resonance rank booster some 15 days prior to jee. Reason - i got it (priced Rs. 1200) only at Rs.120 (90% scholarship to olympiad qualified students).
as far as jd lee is concerned , I covered it (mainly s and p block) but it is not at all needed as far as jee is concerned. pickup any paper (past 5-6 year's) and check it. there will be hardly any question that is out of ncert.

  3. Yes bhaiyya, i'm in class 11th...sorry but i think u r not getting my question...let me make it more clear...For eg. presently my physics sir is teaching rotational motion. So while at home what should i start with?like should i first revise the class notes, then do fiitjeee package(as sir takes doubts of the exercises the very next day) then ncert and then hc verma or in any other order? HOW DID U DO IT?

    ReplyDelete
  4. at home you should read out theory from the books that I have mentioned or from any other book with which you are comfortable in grasping the concepts. Then move on to solving simple questions , say of JEE main level / HC Verma / any other source. Then move on to fiitjee packages. You need not solve the problems given in NCERT (however there are a few really good problems in NCERT physics and you need to cover them specifically). Revision of class notes is mandatory .

  5. bhaiyya, u said jd lee is no more needed as far as JEE is concerned as in last 5-6 yr papers there is hardly any question that is out of ncert. Then which books are needed for NSEC and INCHO as they require indepth knowledge. is JD LEE not needed for olympiads?

    ReplyDelete
  6. in INCHO , there wasn't any question from inorganic chemistry (I am talking about INCHO 2013 , the last one).
For NSEC , it was a cakewalk. There were 10 questions from biochemistry(something like inorganic) which i couldn't do , but still i cleared NSEC. No indepth knowledge is required for NSEC. And no inorganic is required for INCHO(please check other year's papers also to be on safe side)

  7. What is actually the way of revising maths?
    1. is it to do all theory and then all questions for a chapter..
    2. or is to to do one concept at a time and den do the questions related to that concept and then move on to the other concepts?
    3. or is it something different..
please let me know the same for physics and chemistry...
    thnxx in advance!!

  8. bhaiyya, whats the ideal time to finish the syllabus?

    ReplyDelete
  9. @IMG : You must pick some good book say TMH that contains the summary of the chapter for revision. Go through it and then move on to next one.
See basically there are 2 things that you need to do for revision (common for all subjects) :
1.) read each chapter, solve problems concerning the chapter (read-solve-read-solve...)
2.) after number 1 is done , you need to then prepare for (solve-solve-solve..) that is solving problems from all chapters because this is what you will be made to do on "the day" so better prepared with point number 2. You can try fiitjee's GMP or resonance rank booster for this (GMP is tough and contains a lot of irrelevant high level questions that are not required for jee but you must try GMP if you are confident of getting say a 3 digit rank or a 2 digit rank)

    ReplyDelete
  10. @priya : the gap between the exam day and the syllabus completion day must be no more than 2 months

  11. I have a question on Fiitjee's AITS !!

Is it necessary for us to know each and every concept behind every question (AITS part test+full test) along with the skill to solve that kind of tough question or is it sufficient to know the concept involved in each and every question?????

    ReplyDelete
  12. Ofcourse not. Aits is not iitjee. It the grandfather of iitjee. You need not know each and every concept.
However discussing Aits papers and solving the questions that involve a good concept which is is syllabus is recommended

    ReplyDelete
  13. As per you views on AITS and GMP both contain some level of high difficult problems!!

So keeping the time constraint in mind, if we were to develop a practice over the higher end problems at the final stages of our preparation, then which one will u recommend to solve so as to get the full benefit out of it????

either GMP (or) AITS PAPER ANALYSIS ????

    ReplyDelete
  14. Gmp is nothing but a collection of past year Aits papers.
So solving any of the 2 is equivalent

    1. @Abhijeet:
First of all let me tell u that Aits is not jee.
I can bet that jee paper will be completely different from that of Aits. It won't be as rigorous as Aits and would be based on concepts( not just masonry).
As far as your preboard problem is concerned: if ur school authorities don't create trouble for u regarding preboards then I wud suggest not appearing for both the preboards.
Skip them because u know that u have the potential of getting a good rank in jee advanced(where board marks don't matter) and jee main rank isn't going to bother u(where board marks matter a lot).
If your school is going to trouble u for not appearing for preboards(u shud know this thing), then appear for them.
It doesn't matter if u fail in a subject. They will anyway have to allow u to appear for boards.
Physics chemistry and maths aren't going to trouble u in preboards whether u study or not.
However English will definitely trouble u.
But keep calm and don't take preboards seriously.
      All the best for jee

  27. Hi AMAN,

What is the best way to revise class11th chapters along with 12th class preparation? When did you finish up with your class12th preparation?

    ReplyDelete
  28. Solving problems of class 11th syllabus is the best.
Arrange for any good material(any question bank will do) and then solve it bit by bit daily.
Your task is to prevent yourself from forgetting what you have already covered. Solving problems is the best way to do this.
Revising the theory again and again might not be a good idea because you'll soon be bored and your interest in subject will be lost.
But solving problems is interesting and will help you to develop good thinking skills, speed and accuracy.
Remember its your smartness that how well you manage class 11th and 12th portion simultaneously!

    1) i have just completed my 11th. I am pretty confident about 90 percent of the topics covered. I have prepared ONLY FROM NCERT(i did all problems) and has revised it several times, say i have read physics text around 6 or 7 times. I have also completed my coaching material mostly. I am always getting ranks in top 10 with above 80 per cent. So, not mugging huge concept books in the first year is THAT BIG A PROBLEM? Will it affect my JEE prep. in 12th?
    2) u said u haven't attended the school so u had plenty of time to cover a variety of material. I too did the same thing in first year and my school authorities have already fired me thrice. I am school topper in PCM, score above 90% in Eng and 2nd language, but only around 75% in bio. Will this affect my mains rank?

There are thousands of such coachings across the nation.

I am looking forward for AITS in class XII because my 90% course of JEE has been completed (except chem).

  58. Aman bhaiyya,
my 11th didnt go really good.
i was average.and now being my 12th summer vacations i am planning to do 11th all over again.(i go to fiitjee and my packages and books like hcv are only half done)
but fiitjee professors are telling us to revise 11th in oct-nov-dec.
i have seen my seniors struggling during that time with pre boards and projects.
so should i go forward with doing 11th topics again?or should i do some topics now and leave others for oct-nov?

also i am seeing some of my classmates who also go for coaching elsewhere and are toppers even in school are finishing their 12th standard board portions in vacations saying that this will give them time to study for jee and olympiads regularly thruoghout the yr.

now if i were to do fiitjee 12th portions as they are teaching it + 11th standard fiitjee portions + 12th school portions!!!

i am confused on how to balance the three:-/
could u please give me atleast a rough strategy to divide my time and cover important parts of all three simultaneously?????

sorry about this quite long post, bhaiyya but im quite worried now as after messing my 11th(i was a topper till 10th) i want to get an under 100 rank in jee 2015 and i am ready to work really hard for it. i'm just confused on how to go about it?

  60. Aman bhaiya,
i would like to ask you few questions-
1.I am presently in 11th standard and i have joined fiitjee noida's 2 year programme. what i find is the the study material of fiitjee has very little theory in it and i would like to take a correspondence course of vmc or resonance for basically getting good concepts. Please suggest which one of these two would be better for me.
2.Also in terms of reference books for class 11 i have pradeep in physics and chemistry. rd sharma in maths and hc verma for physics. should i buy any other reference book?(for both iit and school). i dont want to buy too many books and want to stick to few good books.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Aman bhaiya,

i joined fiitjee recently.. teachers here are saying that we should refer only the notes and study material given by them.. and they are also saying that following books from other authors can create confusion..

but refering notes does not help me much

So should i refer other books such as H.C. Verma or other authors...?

    2. Check this: http://amangoeliitb.blogspot.in/p/list-of-all-books-that-are-useful.html

Under the "Others" section, you can find Resonance Rank Booster which has been checked by me to be correct absolutely.
You can try it for sure, its closer to JEE level than GMP (which is above JEE level)

  69. Hey! I'm preparing for JEE 2016 , aiming to get a rank<150 . I go to coaching , but not JEE coaching since there's no JEE coaching institutes where I live. So I was ignorant about the difficulty level , and other stuff until the last few months. I've started serious preparations now , but stil lag behind, I've got around 40 chapters left from all subjects (11th and 12th total). I'm giving the Leader Test Series for JEE Advance , by Allen Institute online. In the 3 tests so far , my score has been much below my expectations , around 80-90 out of 240 , since my study was incomplete. I really need to improve my scores. So my doubt is that how should I manage my daily study? I want to complete all the topics as soon as possible , before KVPY, so I can start revising. The main problem before me is that I have to attend my college practicals , and coaching , which takes away around 8 hours of my day, so I hardly manage to study 6 hours a day. How should I study in this time? (I can study more on Wednesdays and Sundays , since we have holidays. ) Please reply ASAP , thanks! :)
