Reviews of best JEE Physics books

Quite a few of you ask me to write the reviews of books so that you can purchase them without any hassle. I understand that the books section contains a lot of books which may be overwhelming for you and not everyone can afford so many books. I hope this post will ease your choice of books.

I will categorize students into 3 categories. Let's choose some fancy names.

  • Noobs - these people have just begun JEE preparation. They don't know anything about JEE syllabus, pattern, etc. These people have no clue about their potential. Basically they know nothing! I was a noob back in 2011 when I started JEE preparation.
  • Semi pro - these people have some idea. They know what it is like to prepare for JEE. Basically if you have been through say 2 months (or more) of JEE preparation, then you can be called as a semi pro.
  • Legendary - these people have excellent idea of JEE preparation and their potential. I would say that such people are potentially top 100 rank candidates.

Let us start with Physics. For any student, the very basic recommended textbook is Concepts of Physics by Professor HC Verma (who is himself a professor at IIT Kanpur). As a JEE aspirant, you must have this book in your mini library. It comes in 2 parts and you can purchase it here:

Make sure to purchase both the volumes ASAP. You will be needing them for basic reference.
Recommended for: noobs and semi pros

Once you are thorough with the very basic level, you must solve problems from DC Pandey books.
Why? They contain problems that are in accordance with JEE syllabus. They have so called tips and tricks that you will need for JEE.

These books will be extremely useful for those who are relying on self study.
Recommended for: semi pros and legendaries

Once you are a semi pro and you want to improve your level to legendary, I would recommend solving IE Irodov. This book will help you realize that you are a fool and you know nothing about Physics and that there is a lot to be learnt. It will truly make you a legendary from a semi pro level.

Recommended for: legendaries
Not recommended for: noobs

A lot of you message me saying - I want to get a top 50 rank and I aim for IITB CSE. As an IITB CSE student, I can tell you that these are the bare minimum set of books almost everyone here has solved (barring those who are from a top coaching institute). These books will be very useful for those who are relying on self study. They will teach you theory as well as give you ample of practice for JEE level physics.

  10. Hi Aman,
I just wanted to ask that what were the maximum number of questions that you attempted , if you felt that this topic of mine is weak...........just want to know that hiw much insense can our preparation become while practising and did u studied exclusively keeping the subtopics given in advanced syllabus....
AND a senior of mine gave jee this year ,he was thourough with hcv and all other hall and knight etc. and still he could only 150 marks in mains...and not qualified for advanced (missed by 2 marks...)..he securd 94% in cbse and was alongside studying for jee.....what could be factors for his not upto the mark performance ,i know you are not an astrologer but still you have faced all this .....and succeded...
    Hope you ll Reply......
    Best wishes for great future...

    1. There is no limit on the number of problems. Solve until you are confident. Believe in quality and not quantity.
It might have been a dark day for your senior. Maybe he was smart but he couldn't manage examination pressure
