Organic chemistry for me was the most fascinating part of chemistry - most logical and of course, most scoring. If you know that "a nucleophile attacks an electrophile", your half portion of organic chemistry is done (believe me). Entire organic chemistry is dedicated to the above statement.
There are some "Named Reactions" which are very important. I will name some of them - "Reimer Tiemenn" reaction, "Cannizarro" reaction, "Friedel - Craft's" reactions and many others. They all form the backbone of organic chemistry and must be thoroughly covered.
Another important aspect of Organic Chemistry is GOC - General Organic Chemistry. In the recent years, a lot of questions have been asked on - resonance stability, carbocation stability, type of reactions, hyperconjugation and many more topics from this chapter. So it is advisable to cover them well.
For Organic Chemistry, I would suggest a book named "LG Wade" by "Pearson Education". Though the book is not designed for JEE aspirants, it definitely serves the purpose. Do cover the book thoroughly. Practice a lot of questions in order to have a command in Organic Chemistry.
My approach towards learning organic chemistry was "mechanistic". I focused a lot on the reaction mechanisms. In 15 minutes, you can solve entire JEE organic chemistry (if you know the solution). Rather than mugging up organic chemistry, try to understand the mechanism. In JEE, they ask you the entire mechanism of the reaction through Paragraph type questions.
Book recommendations: Best books for JEE organic chemistry

A good book for practice is M.S Chouhan, with its solutions of balaji publication. The book has sufficient question for practice. The best part of book is that with increasing question there level too increase.
ReplyDeleteBut a drawback of book is that sometimes questions are quite tough and above JEE level, but this can be neglected so it is a must read for aspirants who want to master the simplest branch of simplest subject ......
BUT, the book is really really tough for an average student because most students aren't comfortable with chemistry. The book covers almost all type of problems that are possible in organic chemistry but it is not meant for beginners.
DeleteWhich book is good `` LG Wade or Solomons `` for organic chemistry for a dropper. For iitjee.
DeleteWould LG wade be good for a beginner? If not can u suggest one?And did u join kaysons education also?
ReplyDeleteyeah LG wade is THE book for beginners. you can't get a better book for organic but keep in mind that some topics that are in jee syllabus but not in LG wade are ot be covered from other sources
Deletebhaiyya,in ur opinon should i do LG wade and then MS chouhan or just LG wade would suffice for jee advanced?
DeleteFor JEE : LG wade is more than enough.
DeleteI would recommend solving intext problems and understanding their minutest details.
for chapter end problems : solving them is a good idea (the un-starred ones)
MS chauhan is useless for JEE.
DeleteHowever solving that book might help you in INChO because in olympiads (second level) , the problems are really tough and beyond JEE level.
But a final word of caution : stay away from that book if you are even slightly confused in organic chemistry
Hey.. hows Solomon Fryle MS Chouhan for organic chemistry??
ReplyDeleteIMG : i never read that book so i have no idea
ReplyDeleteno problem boss...
Deletewhich edition of LG Wade would be best for me. I am giving JEE in 2014.
ReplyDeleteHi AMAN,
ReplyDeletehow to make notes in organic chemistry? HOW DID YOU MAKE YOUR NOTES IN ORGANIC CHEMISTRY?
WHICH BOOKS SHOULD I FOLLOW IN ORDER TO GAIN COMMAND OVER THE SUBJECT?
PLEASE ALSO MENTION ABOUT THE BEST COACHING MATERIAL AND BOOKS FOR PRACTICE OF QUESTIONS?
@Ali,
ReplyDeleteThese are standard books. All editions are essentially the same.
Purchase the one by professor LG wade and ma. Shanked singh
@priyansh, LG wade is the book to be followed parallel to ncert
ReplyDeleteFor notes: refer LG wade again. It contains a page that lists all the key mechanisms. They are your notes
thanks.
DeleteHi AMAN,
ReplyDeletei am currently in class 11th and i have only 3 months before entering in class 12th.
I just wanted to know that what all syllabus of class 12th should be done in order to get an edge over other competitors? is it wise to start with calculus now? as i know that it takes few months to cover this part in mathematics. Because i was preparing for NSEP, i finished the basics of current electricity and magnetism only.
WHAT WAS YOUR STRATEGY AT THIS STAGE OF CLASS 11TH FOR CLASS 12TH?
Aman,please reply.....
ReplyDeleteWell I was always told by my seniors that I should cover some topics beforehand.
ReplyDeleteFur frankly speaking, I was too lazy to pick up a book and study something besides what's being taught.
I never did that.
I Had covered basic calculus in my class 10th so I had an idea of the topic.
You can study anything you want but keep in mind that what is being taught in coaching should be covered thoroughly.
It shouldn't happen that you are not able to understand the current topics only because you are covering other topics.
thanks for your good reply.
DeleteHi AMAN,
ReplyDeleteCan you give me a list of chapters of class 12th which can be covered beforehand?
I am weak in physical chemistry portion of class 11th(ATOMIC STRUCTURE, CHEMICAL KINETICS, THERMODYNAMICS AND MOST IMPORTANT OF ALL STOICHIOMETRY) and i just have 3 months left before class 12th beginning, also i have to revise mechanics portion of physics. Can you advise me on how to cover them in just 3 months very effectively? From where should i practice questions of STOICHIOMETRY as i did not solve even 30 questions in this chapter?
For stoichiometry:
ReplyDeleteYou can solve problems of this chapter only when you have covered all the reactions. This is possible only if your inorganic part is complete.
So be patient with this chapter.
Towards the end of your preparation you can focus on this chapter because before that you won't be able to complete the reactions.
However you should be good at balancing of redox reactions at this stage.
For class 12th chapters: I would suggest not moving ahead in chemistry because that might be difficult for you and ou. Might end up just wasting your time.
For mechanics revision, pick up some book that you Trust(my suggestion is irodov) and solve it thoroughly.
Before picking up irodov, make sure that you are aware of all the concepts and also ask your teacher whether you should proceed with this book or not.
For physical chemistry, read the concepts from ncert and other concepts(those that are not given in ncert but are there in jee syllabus) from a good book like op tondon or any other book
book.
Once you are done then practice questions from Rc Mujkherjee
Hi AMAN,
ReplyDeleteI am following P Bahadur (GRB) in physical chemistry. Is there any difference between P Bahadur and RC mukherjee?
Please also mention about the MATHS AND PHYSICS chapters list of class 12th. Is it wise to cover some basic the maths and physics chapters of class12th to get and edge over other students?
Never seen p bahadur so I can't comment over it.
DeleteFor maths and physics chapter list: I didnt get your context. If u r just asking for chapter list, then refer ncert or jee advanced website.
Yes covering some chapters beforehand is definitely going to help u.
For example, I knew calculus in the beginning of.my class eleventh. So that helped a lot to catch up physics
This comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeletebrother you are saying that L G WADE is best book for organic but what about O P TANDON .Also help me in deciding the best book for inorganic chemistry
ReplyDeleteOp tondon is not a Good book.
DeleteMy teacher especially advised me to stay away from that book.
For inorganic: refer to my post on inorganic chemistry
Aman, please reply........
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeletehey while preparing for you physical chem did you refer to rc mukherjee ?
ReplyDeletealso did you solve all the questions from it i mean each and every question ...including the the subjective questions they have . the reason im asking is that doing all these with the fiitjee pkg is really time consuming and leads to backlog .
I'll soon write a post on physical chemistry. till then you'll have to wait
ReplyDeleteHi AMAN,
ReplyDeleteI have started revising all the concepts of physical chemistry again but it is taking a lot of time say at least 2 weeks to cover my weak chapters of physical chemistry and mechanics(especially).
I need your advice on how to finish up everything before class 12th begins, Hardly have 3 months left.
Please also tell from where to practice in such limited time.
all these things you should decide by yourself.
ReplyDeleteyou should be wise enough to pick up a good book from the books available and decide which suits you best.
the book choice should depend on :
amount of time available
and the depth to which you want to go into the subject
revise mechanics from irodov as I have already mentioned. It will definitely take time.
Don't think that one you complete mechanics revision then you don't need to do that again.
Parallel to your class 12th , you will have to revise mechanics as well as other class 11th topics.
Hey..for Organic Chemistry..are the rxn. in ncert enough..or we need to do rxns other than that as well...like i have seen many rxns with different catalyst which are taught to us but not in ncert..so are they actually relevant or is it just increasing the bulk??
ReplyDeleteYes cover the extra reactions too because these reactions have been asked at least once in the past years( including the 80s and the 90s)
DeleteSo they may be asked again.
Better be prepared because in chemistry, questions are frequently repeated
Hi AMAN,
ReplyDeleteAre ARIHANT books good for organic chemistry? There is a book by the name(ESSENTIAL ORGANIC CHEMISTRY- RANJIT SHAHI) and(Organic Chemistry-Dr. RK Gupta) which i am confused about about. Please give your suggestions regarding the books. Both the books are of arihant publication.
Haven't tried the ranjit Shah book but tried rk Gupta.
DeleteRk Gupta isn't a good book at all.
You'll be confused if you try that book.
Better stick to LG wade as I said.
For problems, refer to your coaching material and for revision, pick up any revision package as suggested.
Make sure you solve all the questions of ncert also.
Hi Aman..actually I dont do to coachng and have no correspondence course..so what should I refer to for problems??
DeleteSorry I can't help you here.
DeleteI don't know any good book for practice
Hi AMAN,
ReplyDeleteI wanted to ask you that presently i am busy in revising class11th chapters which i had done recently, also i have started studying a few 12th class topics like ELECTROSTATICS in physics but i needed your suggestion regarding chemistry, as to which chapter can be studied now of class 12th because presently in Fiitjee we are studying GOC, PLEASE SUGGEST SOMETHING RELATED TO ORGANIC CHEMISTRY?
You can start GOC from NCERT
DeleteBut I guess beginning with chemistry is not recommended unless you are super stud at that.
An average student like me was always confused in the nuances of the subject and faced a lot of doubts during self study so I never went ahead in chemistry.
But if you can then go ahead with organic chemistry.
Once you are done with GOC, start with LG wade keeping in mind that you have to cover only those things which are there in syllabus
HELLO AMAN,
ReplyDeleteplz suggest me a book for organic which has all concepts in brief and has a variety og good QUE so i can finish it off with organic as i am jee14 aspirant..
No such book exists as far as I know :)
DeleteEssential Organic Chemistry - Ranjeet Shahi (arihant publication)
DeleteHi AMAN,
ReplyDeleteAs most of the books in the market like peter sykes, paula bruce, lg wade are not specially written for jee. Is there any difficulty that was faced by you when u referred these non JEE oriented books? Is there any harm in following them in the long run?
Did u follow Jagdamba and jerry march for organic, I am not using them presently just heard about them from friends?
Paula Bruice is not meant for JEE.
DeleteI used it in my first semester in B.Tech.
So I would suggest staying away from it.
Peter Sykes has very difficult language. Your time will be wasted in understanding English rather than Chemistry.
You can rather go with Morrison Boyd. It's available easily and is the HC Verma of organic chemistry. But if LG wade is available then it's the best choice
Can you please explain why you don't suggest Paula bruice?
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, I didn't use that book for my JEE preparation
DeleteSecondly, I read that book here in B.tech as a part of chemistry course and that book is just too rigorous.
That much indepth analysis and rigour isn't required for JEE.
I,ve decided to go with morrison & boyd for organic chemistry
ReplyDeletewill it be fine ??
for practicing organic I,m going for essential organic chemistry as it contains enough question for practice
will that be fine for organic ???
Yeah morrison and boyd is good
DeleteHi AMAN,
ReplyDeleteWhat was your strategy for organic chemistry in class12th?
Can u please tell me step by step approach to cover any chapter in organic chemistry, from BASIC LEVEL TO ADVANCED LEVEL?
Kidding ?
DeleteThis post is the answer to your question.
I have clearly mentioned my own strategy here
Hey aman.. I found your blog helpful and bought myself the book bs ms chouhan elementary problems in organic chemistry.
ReplyDeleteBut the thing I found out weird was that the answer key to the multiple choice questions were missing. I am a beginner in organic and wanna check my answers. I am not sure about my answers. Is there any answer key available ?
-thanks in advance....
No idea.
DeleteWell better refrain from that book.
It's dangerous
my sir asked me to read solomons and morrison boyd, are they good books??
ReplyDeleteyes
Deletehey Aman,
ReplyDeletei have completed rk gupta but i found it to be a bit disorganized
wud it b advisable to practice from lg wade now
please while asking doubts, post the year in which you'll be appearing for JEE. It matters a lot
Delete2014
Deletedefinitely not.
Deleteat this stage, you must focus on revision packages only
Also one of my faviorate parts of chemistry
ReplyDeletehi aman i am in class 11 now
ReplyDeleteappearing for jee 2015
a) i am following cengage organic for this year ,ie.upto hybdocarbons and refering L G WADE for clarification of concepts. Is this the correct way to study first year organic .
b) what books should be studied for class 12 organic
c) you would surely know about POAC method mentioned in RC Mukerjee
i found it realy helpful . is there any such method in chemistry .
d) i am refering ashish arora and dc pandey for physics now. i am able to solve irodov . Are my preparations enough.
e) now i have almost 100 hours to study physics in the upcoming month and this one .how should i revise physics
f) i am not following any test series . should i? if yes can i start from class 12,ie,from april.
please reply as soon as possible.
thank you in advance.
a.) organic is organic. There is no class 11th or class 12th organic. It is called "JEE" organic chemistry. LG wade is THE book to be followed.
Deleteb.)LG wade
c.)Sorry, I didn't get your question.
d.)yes it's enough
e.)check the post on revision strategy
f.)yes a test series is not required in class 11th
FOR ORGANIC--IS NCERT REACTIONS+MECHANISMS FOR THE SAME AND EXTRA SUMS ENOUGH??
ReplyDeleteWhat exam are you talking about ? CBSE ?
Deletemains mainly and for advanced?
DeleteDefinitely not
Deletebhaiya, organic chemistry ki aisi textbook bataiye jisme acche se samjhaya ho aur ham usko bina teacher ke padh kar samjh le (like resnick or verma in physics)
ReplyDeletehamare teacher jagdamba singh recommend karte hai, hamko kuch samjh hi nahi aata hai usme..
Are you joking ?
DeleteI have clearly mentioned the book name along with description in this post.
hi aman
ReplyDeleteyou have mentioned that l g wade is the best book for organic. can you please tell me how to use this book. how to study hydrocarbons from it.
and can you edit l g wade and send me i have the ebook.i request you to delete the unrequired things and send me the edited version. its in word format so that you can edit it. you may take your time.can you please give me your email id so that i can send you the google drive link.
thank you in advance.
Yes, LG Wade is indeed the best book for JEE.
DeleteTo study that book, just read it like a novel, you will enjoy it.
Understand the mechanisms rather than mugging up the facts.
Sorry, I can't help you with that editing think because I no more remember JEE syllabus.
bhaiya
ReplyDeleteIs O.P tandon enough for iitjee chemistry.and plzz tell me the books that you have cover over the span of your iitjee preparation (especially maths and physics)
Please go through the blog carefully.
DeleteI have mentioned about the books at numerous places
hi aman
ReplyDeletei had earlier asked about the editing the book LG wade . you mentioned that the syllabus might have been changed. i checked that out the syllabus is almost the same from past 5 years.so you may edit it according to the syllabus which you studied.as you have read that book you will know which part must be deleted, added, and you will also know the order in which it must be studied.i know that this will take some time but i am fine even if you take a month.please bro this will help me a lot. it will even help other who want the book.
This is something you should do yourself.
DeleteBeing a serious JEE aspirant, you are expected to seek guidance from others but not be dependent on others.
It's been about a year. I don't remember those things.
I am sorry, but I won't be able to help you here.
You should do it yourself
should i complete entire lg wade or only 30-40% is in syllabus? can i skip d 3rd chap on petrochemicals nd petroleum industry in India
ReplyDeleteOf course, you are required to skip that chapter.
DeleteAround 70% of the book is there in JEE syllabus
Hi Aman!
ReplyDeleteI am in Class 11 and I have studied Wade uptill Class 11 syllabus, but see Wade questions are really generic, not JEE level, they ask you to draw resonating structures and other boring stuff. I do my package and archive but in my FIITJEE phase tests there are some tough problems that come. So, can you please suggest a problems (subjective or objective) book for Organic Chemistry?
Thanks.
the in-text problems of wade are really really good and they will show you the step by step approach to an organic chemistry problem.
DeleteYou can give a try to MS Chauhan only and only if you think that you are capable enough to get say, under 500 rank. Otherwise stay away from that book.
Ask your teacher for a good book
What is your opinion about "Organic Chemistry by TW Graham Solomons"?
ReplyDeleteNever heard of it
DeleteThe book which you shared "Wiley - Named Organic Reactions" is this book really helpfull??
ReplyDeleteI just shared it. I never read it.
DeleteIn case you get time, just go through it and decide if it suits you
k. Thank you
Deletehey , is this the l g wade you are talking about?
ReplyDeletehttp://www.flipkart.com/organic-chemistry/p/itmczyqagafgfhhh?pid=9780321768414&otracker=from-search&srno=t_1&query=LG+WADE+&ref=6a1e9595-70b5-4074-8a17-274cc9162835
Definitely not. Who will purchase "THAT" costly book.
DeleteThe book I am referring to is
Organic chemistry by LG Wade and Maya Shankar Singh,
Pearson Educations(Publishers)
Are you talking about this:-
Deletehttp://www.flipkart.com/organic-chemistry-6th/p/itmdyugtrn2wjddg
Ya, this is the correct book.
DeleteThis is the book I am talking about

ReplyDeletethis is the link to download lg wade 8th edition along with the solution manual.
Hello Aman.....I m a jee 2015 aspirant..........I want to know that the drive u share contains many books/material like Guide to machenism,Advanced oragainc chemistry part a/b AND packages of brilliant which covers almost all parts of orgain in it...........NOW IS IT SUFFICIENT FOR "THEORY"......or should i buy LG-Wade...........Please guide me.......
ReplyDeleteSee, I haven't seen the contents of the drive myself. I just found it and shared it
DeleteOf course purchasing LG Wade is the best idea
thnx a lot :-)
ReplyDeleteHey aman
ReplyDeleteI ve decided to cover my organic chemistry part from ncert for theory ,
I want to ask u
1.is that sufficient for jee advance level in terms of theory part??
I ll be giving jee advance 2015, but my whole of chemistry course is pending expcept a few topics , I,m aming for 2 digit rank and I,m extermly comfortable with chemistry
2.should I do ram parallel to ncert in organic chemistry or after completing course ??
thanks
No It's not sufficient.
DeleteWhat do you mean by "ram" ?
it will be of great help if you let me know that in organic chemistry what are the reactions in which we have to study their stereochemistry. I searched the whole JEE advance syllabus and couldn't find it.
ReplyDeleteStereochemistry of "any" reaction mentioned in the syllabus may be asked
DeleteI'm using Solomon Fryhle for Organic....should i read the entire book or read keeping the JEE syllabus(topics) in mind?
ReplyDeleteUse your own IQ.
DeleteIf you aren't able to decide this then I am sorry for you
please aman visit these site http://www.fiitjee.com/pdf/JEE-SOL-INTERNET-PCM.pdf and see question 7 (chemistry)
ReplyDeletethese is again a stereochemistry (which I really scare). Can you make me understand the solution to these question.
This is an elementary question. You must be taught that carbocation is planar.
DeleteNow assume that the plane of the molecule is horizontal. So, the attacking molecule (nucleophile) may attack from above or from below - resulting in 2 different products (enantiomers as you call them)
The thing that i wanted to ask was that Here in the question nothing is said about the nucleophile so how can it racemise without the presence of any nucleophile
DeleteThe thing that i wanted to ask was that Here in the question nothing is said about the nucleophile so how can it racemise without the presence of any nucleophile
DeleteThe SbCl5 converts later to a nucleophile

ReplyDeleteHey aman
ReplyDeleteIm in a big problem , im struck in a big problem in chemistry as my organic and physical chemistry courses are pending completely
I need the following help
1. I ve done reaction mechanism from essential organic chemistry (arihant publications and its done almost perfectly as I've checked my concepts by trying previous years questions ,) but that book is too rigorous and complex as one proceeds further , it has a good question bank perfect for practicing questions and so I've decided to do organic chemistry from ncert from now onwards and other topics which are not present in ncert from other source . Is this sufficient in terms of syllabus completion and good preparation in terms of concept?
I,ll be giving jee advance 2015 and 90% of my chemistry is pending , so according to time constrain is my decision correct ? Im aming for a 2 digit rank
im planing to do questions from essential organic chemistry (excellent question bank from conceptual to typical level ) and I've decides to shift from essential organic chemistry due to time constrain.
Deletefirst of all realize that you have more than 12 months in hand.
DeleteIf you study organic only 2 hours a day, then you have 12 x 30 x 2 = 720 hours for organic chemistry.
Realize that it is a huge number. Suppose that you have 20 chapters, then still you are giving 36 hours to each chapter. That's more than enough. So, calm down and start studying.
Realize that still you have a lot of time to change your rank from 4 digit to 3 digit to 2 digit (maybe to 1 digit).
Better sit and think for say 30 minutes that which books will suit you and what should be your plan to deal with chemistry section.
Did you use to solve each and every problem in LG Wade?
ReplyDeleteNo. I solved only the in-text problems
ReplyDeletebhaiyya,,
ReplyDeletei am interested in studying organic chemistry and i love to study the reaction mechanisms. Also i study in the integrated school programme of FIITJEE.The only problem i am facing is that i am far behind my class portions in organic chemistry due to some health problems.i am finding it difficult to follow the class.
what should i do????
Should i ignore my teacher and start studying myself from where i know or should i study both of them together.
Please help!!!!!!!!!
:(
bhaiyya,
Deleteone more question???
is this the book you are recommending.
http://bookza.org/s/?q=organic+chemistry+l.g.wade&t=0
I don't know about this link
Deleteyou should study parallely
Hello, Can u plz tell me...How much time does it take approx to cover organic chemistry portion for jee?
ReplyDeleteDepends on your speed - and the width/depth of coverage.
DeleteAverage speed and I want to score as much as I can in organic part of jee.....Actually, I want to plan my studies accordingly
Deleteread LG wade thoroughly(and simultaneously solve problems from a good source).
DeleteWhen you are done with it, take at least 2 full readings of NCERT organic chemistry.
If you are not sure where to practice problems from, then solve a few problems of LG Wade(not the starred ones). It will give you confidence.
Can you please help me find the ''drive'' you are talking about.I can't find it.
ReplyDeletewrite your comment it in the correct post
DeleteIs Solomon frhyle good because I don't have lg wade and it is also a gigantic book(I am giving jee2015) will I be able to complete it
ReplyDeleteAlso tell me if only lg wade will suffice or lg wade Maya shankar
The book I am referring to has been authored by LG Wade and Maya Shankar Singh
DeleteI have not read solomon's and Frhyle
I have purchased the book lg wade Maya shankar Singh
DeleteCan you please tell me from where can I solve problems
I also have fiitjee classroom material
for problems, fiitjee material is good enough.
DeleteIf you want challenging problems, then you may give a try to the problems of LG Wade
Hey, did you start preparing organic from the beginning of class 11th or did you start it later?
ReplyDeleteIn the beginning of class 12th
Deleteif i m able to solve archive fluently should i consider my theory part over.. i mean aftr archive is there more surprise and twist or bare repetion of old qs in modified form?
ReplyDeletethxx
well you will always find new questions in IIT JEE
DeleteA man i cannot find preparation of alkanes in the lg wade , or if someone is using that book please tell me where I can find that part.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteOne question was bothering me...
ReplyDeletein reactions such as in the reaction of hydroxide ion with idomethane(SN2 reaction) the nucleophile gives its both electrons to form coordinate bond with carbon atom or it donates a single electron and the hydroxide free radical and carbon free radical form bonds.
I am sorry but I am here to answer non conceptual doubts only.
DeleteFor conceptual doubts, ask you teacher/refer books
Hi, I am currently in class 12th and looking for a good book in organic chemistry. My friends suggested me to use either Morrison & Boyd, or Solomons & Frhyle. Now since i also came to know about this book LG Wade from here, i am confused on what to choose :| All these are from foreign authors and not meant for JEE, which one will closely resemble JEE syllabus?
ReplyDeleteWell LG wade is what I used and it got me a good rank in JEE.
DeleteNow it's upto you to decide
i've mastered GOC..... now the actual organic is gonna start from tomorrow in my coachings... how long should organic take.... how long was in ur fiitjee??
ReplyDeleteIt will take around 6 months or more
DeleteI started doing lg wade after I read about it in this blog...but I think not even 40 percent of the things given there have been taught to us in fiitjee but since they are class 11 topics they need to be done(I m in class 12 now) but I m little confused about how can there be so much not taugt to us...so do u suggest referring jee syllabus while doing lg wade as there may be things that aren't in jee syllabus and are hence not taught to us..
ReplyDeleteWell the book is important. The problem is that in FIITJEE(chemistry), they teach only important things that can be asked in JEE. They don't teach the basics and this is the reason that the students face problems. I would suggest you to read LG Wade carefully and also make sure that you have JEE syllabus with you.
DeleteThanks
DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteBhaiya I am doing lg wade and I have done a lot many things from it but today we got a new teacher in our coaching institute and he said that reaction mechanisms are not give nicely in that book so I should stop using it and use peter sykes instead...please guide me..I am confused.
ReplyDeleteWell, I personally don't like peter sykes because it is tough to grasp.
DeleteI fell LG Wade is sufficient for JEE
Note that JEE 2010 AIR 1 used this book for his JEE preparation (As I was told by my teacher)
Ok..thanks for your guidance..u are too helpful.
ReplyDeletethanks
DeleteHi Aman
DeleteI was looking for organic chemistry by LG Wade in flipkart and I found many books. I am confused which one to buy. Can you please help me with the exact book and approx price so that I can select the right one. I was reading somewhere that Organic Chemistry by "LG Wade Jr & Maya Shankar Singh" is not recommended .
Hi AMAN,
ReplyDeleteI am following the book LG WADE and i am enjoying reading it.
But there are certain points which i tend to miss after i read i chapter.
I Wanted to ask you that what is the best way to study standard textbooks like LG WADE, so that we don't forget what we read before during the exams?
How did u study Lg Wade?
Did u make notes while reading the book?
Thanks.
No, I didn't make notes. I just read it and enjoyed it. This way, I never really had to memorize it. Organic chemistry was never a burden
Deletebhaiyya from where did you pratice ques after l g wade..
ReplyDeleteand by the way lg wade is a great book
Please go through the comments in this post
Deletei have essential organic chemistry by ranjeet shahi then also ishould buy lg wade
ReplyDeletefrom were i cam buy fiitjee resonance etc good notes as told by you please ans by question
ReplyDeleteIf you to choose b/w Morrison and Boyd and LG.Wade, which one would you prefer and why?
ReplyDeleteLG Wade
Deletehi! are the reactions in morrison and boyd enough for jee advanced?pls reply fast
ReplyDeletebhaiyya l g wade does not have cannizarro reaction and some other reactions.did you cover it from elsewhere?
ReplyDeleteyou practiced organic ques. from ?

ReplyDeletePLEASE REPLY AS SOON AS YOU CAN
Hello...i cannot find "Reimer Tiemenn Reaction " in LG WADE . can you hep me find it. I have 8th edition of the original series.
ReplyDeleteAman there ares o many posts which are is very confusing which book one should do for practice of organic chemistry i'm doing fiitjee packages and archive (iitjee ques) and going through morisson(i m doing before i came across your blog) would you recommend to leave that and instead go for lg wade.
ReplyDeletePlease clear it which book is recommended for practice.i'm really confused over it.
If you are enjoying that book, continue
DeleteElse LG wade is the best book for organic chemistry for JEE
Here is the link : http://amangoeliitb.blogspot.de/2015/06/updated-books-section.html
Note that its is better as a text book and not for problems
However, the solve examples of the book are just too good to teach you the ideas of how to tackle a problem
is op tandons organic chemistry sufficient for jee advanced?
ReplyDeleteHave you check any Plancess books?? How good are they???
ReplyDeleteHi bro.
ReplyDeleteI am in class 11 at present and i am using lg wade for organic but there is no hyper conjugation in that book can u tell me where that chapter is
Hi Aman
ReplyDeleteI am a regular follower of your amazing blog. As per your recommendation, I have almost completed M.S. Chouhan. Should I also practice the nomenclature questions given in the end?
Don't think so.
DeleteIf you know the basics of Nomenclature, it is fine.
It should not be the case that in the JEE paper, a paragraph question comes which mentions the IUPAC name of a compound and you aren't able to do the whole paragraph purely because you did not know what that compound was, whose IUPAC name was given

so i want to start from the ABCD level of organic. please help me.
First read GOC from some good book (I really don't know the best book for GOC. I just followed my teacher for GOC).
DeleteOnce you are thorough with GOC, take LG Wade as your guidebook.
To purchase the book - refer to the books section
Essential organic chemistry by ranjeet shahi is a good n best book for not just goc but also for whole organic chemistry. ALL the topics are covered very well n it is a lot BETTER than lg wade.
DeleteAnd on what grounds can you say that?
DeleteHas anyone ever heard of that book?
Has anyone got a rank after reading that book?
Any statistics?
Is chapterwise test preferable or the major test series one(of resonance)?appearing in 2016...
ReplyDeleteIn JEE will they ask you problems chapter wise?
DeleteI used to study R K gupta (Arihant), NCERT along with class notes for theory. I have also completed M S Chauhan (both level 1 and 2) is it sufficent for JEE Advance 2016 if i want to answer all the questions of Organic portion in the upcoming exam correctly
