This post focuses mainly on motivation.
Most students appear for IIT-JEE because of parental pressure ! Some do that simply because their "friends" are preparing for JEE !!
NO. This is should not be the reason for you to appear for the most prestigious exam of India. You are simply increasing the crowd. And it is highly likely that you won't be able to crack the exam.
There must be some self motivation, a desire to do well, a hunger to study in the Premier Colleges of India, an ambition to go ahead of others, a zeal to prove yourself.
Here is something to motivate you.
The feeling when you crack JEE is different.
The society looks you with respect. You are thought to be as a born genius. People start talking about you. You start feeling like a celebrity. Aunties would say "Wo to brilliant tha hi, uska to IIT me selection hona hi tha". Your photographs appear in the newspapers. Relatives start respecting you. You get numerous phone calls from friends/relatives/teachers, congratulating you and wishing for your success. You get party demands from everyone you can think of.
This feeling is great. "I have proved myself, I am an IITian now."
You will also find tonnes of people who are jealous of you. But feel lucky - everyone doesn't get the privilege to have "Haters".
During your journey, many will misguide you, demotivate you by telling you that "IIT's are no more that prestigious what they used to be. Now PQR College is more in demand" or any other thing of that sort. But, you must be wise enough to shut your ears and move on with even a higher confidence level.
IIT's are IIT's. Best Colleges of India. They have ruled the "Top Engineering College of India List" from years.
Confidence and Motivation are the key to cracking JEE.
Another point you must keep in mind this that "I want so and so rank so that I am able to get XYZ branch in IIT-Z". That "so and so" must be clearly defined from day 1 itself.
You must be aware of the opening and closing ranks of the XYZ branch in IIT-Z so that your mind is set to work accordingly.
Don't just blindly prepare for JEE. Have a clear-cut target in mind and struggle for it.
All the best.
Bhaiya, I am in class 11 and am preparing for IIT JEE 2015. I also dream to get CS and under 100 rank like you. I have not been that with the studies for the first 3 months. It's August and it feels like I will not be able to clear JEE. Also have enrolled in Vidyamandir Classes but the only encourage to solve their module and nothing else. I have Test Series 15 days. Can you suggest some tips on Time Management etc.
ReplyDeleteShashwat, you still have a lot of time.
ReplyDeleteLife is not over. Study hard and jee will be cracked

ReplyDeletehey whenever u studied and could not get problems or did not understand a certain concept then what did you do ?
ReplyDeletein my case whenver i do not questions from hcv or some other pkg i just leave it ..?
did you experience the same problem too. please help me out?
if you are doing this now - "in my case whenver i do not questions from hcv or some other pkg i just leave it ..?"
Deletethen i promise you would do the same on the JEE day
this is all i can say
and if you are doing it now - "whenever i am not getting a question, i struggle hard to get the answer and then keep the concept involved in my mind so that i do not face the same problem"
then the IITs are waiting for you :)
Bhaiya, I'm in 11th n I'm preparing for jee 2018 . I've joined a local (yet best in my city) n gonna take reso's DLP. I'm doing hard work .. To the extream level .. As much as my body can tolerate .. ReplyDeleteIbwould suggest completing irodov after entire mechanics has been covered.
ReplyDeleteBecause till then you will be thorough with a large part of physics as well as mathematics so you will be in a position to solve irodov.
For beginners this book will be scary!

ReplyDeleteSIr I am currently in class tenth. I have already covered all class X syllabus. My 11th will start 4 months from now. And like you, I have also got a 65% fee waiver in FIIT JEE.
ReplyDeleteI am the overall topper in a good delhi school and always attain near full marks in science and maths.
Can I get into the top 100in JEE? What should I study right now? (my tenth and ninth concepts are absolutely clear)
It's good that you are concerned about your career from the beginning itself.
DeleteOf course everyone has the potential of cracking JEE but it is all about correct time management and strategy.
As Arpit Agarwal(JEE 2012 AIR 1) told me once , "Hard work is a vector quantity."
Everyone works hard. But a topper work hard in the right direction.
Focus on you class 10th syllabus. Do well in your board exams. That will help you in gaining confidence.
SIr, I want at least the top 700 in IIT. I don't study at all in normal days and holidays and just a few hours during exams and I still get near full mark always in maths and science(~98%). I got full in 10th SA1 in maths and science. I am ready and already planned a time table of studies. I will study 60 hrs/week.
DeletePls advise me a complete IIT JEE preparation book list for my targets and intelligence level. And how many books should I use max in each subject?
listen here is the most important advice before you commence your JEE preparation:
Deletenever take pride on what you achieved till class 10th.
I know a boy who cleared his class 12th with a 98% and was also a tough competitor of mine in class 10th (He was in my own school), but couldn't clear JEE.
JEE is not about mugging/cramming/learning what you (infact I too) have been doing till class 10th.
I can guarantee you that you won't get that 98% in your first test, how so ever hard you study (mark my words).
Take this as a positive advise and not a taunt, any you'll definitely succeed.
Here is the another suggestion on how to make the best out of this blog and get the desired rank :
1.) stop looking at this blog after you have read this post.
2.) study hard for your board exams and get at least 95% marks.
3.) after your board exams get over, you'll get plenty of time. During this time, go through the entire blog and plan your own strategy on how you are going to study.
4.) There are a lot of books listed here. Look for some other sources and then pick up the book that you feel is recommended by most people (keeping in mind the current JEE pattern).
5.) all the best, you'll definitely make it to the top colleges of the country. My best wishes are with you.

DeleteRichik can I know from where you are. Are you from west Bengal. Kolkata. I'm curious because I have a relative cum brother from that part.
Deleteplease tell me the strategy to crack iit in 9 months with in top 200 AIR
ReplyDeleteMake your own strategy.
DeleteI can't help in this.
I had my own strategy which may/may not suit you
Hi Aman.
ReplyDeletei just want to know that how did you avoid distractions?. for example while you were studying someone outside your room was talking. and when someone is watching tv to the room next to yours?.
close your room's door.
DeleteUse ear plugs
Third and most important method - concentrate on your own work (studies here)

ReplyDeleteSee, the point of this blog is not to make you people handicapped.
DeleteWhat I mean to say is that you should not become "dependent" on me.
There are some questions whose answers are with you yourself.
The aim of this blog is just give you guidance and not to "become your support".
Well said buddy....i get ur point....

ReplyDeleteBhaiya!! I am 2014 JEE aspirant..
ReplyDeleteI want 2 opt fr CSE in IITB/IITD
I'm preparing fr it since 2 yeasr..
Well. my rank always fluctuates 2 much in d Test series.
d main reason is Physics...
it is my strongest subjct, I'm abl 2 get under 10 rank in last one year..
I use 2 attmpt it second...
but it takes more time than expectd, it takes around 1:00 to sometimes even 1:20, bcoz of which I'm nt able 2 give proper time in Maths.. at d end It became 2 tense to attempt d maths as I look many ques r left..
I'm able 2 get just above average marks in maths..which is d main reason fr my fluctuating rank..
whenever I do good in Maths I'm able to get really good rank..
what should I do, should I change d order of attempting d subjects or practice phy more then usual...
and which subject should I attempt last?? as use to tense at d last 5-10 min..
One more problem, what should I do with Physical Chem, which somewhat degrades my score...
Read the latest post in the blog to get an idea of how I attempted the paper (the sequence of subjects)
DeleteFor physical chemistry - there is a post in chemistry section
Bhaiya, how do i maintain the confidence i have developed after a period of 15 months. i am now able to solve majority of the questions in the paper and am able to score reasonably well.
ReplyDeletebhaiya i am a serious aspirant of jee 2016. but i began preparation just now. Is 1 year and 3 months enough to crack jee and get a rank below 900? what should be my approach to studies now? (PS- i stay in a city where there are no coaching centres available for JEE)

Bhaiya,I am a jee 2017 aspirant.I an in 11 std.I want a rank in top 100 and want to come to. iit mumbai. What should be the strategy to prepare for jee to get a two digit rank.
ReplyDeleteGreetings bhaiya! I'm Vikram, and I'm a JEE-2017 aspirant. I'd been doing quite well in my coaching tests, but my performance has started to dip slightly now. I've realised that I tend to do well when I revise topics before exams, but I tend to forget stuff that was done a long time ago. Also, my mechanics concepts have become quite weak because of non-revision. Also, I'm having trouble managing both school and JEE prep (school attendance). I'd like to ask you-should I first revise my class 11 concepts from scratch, or should I focus more on class 12 physics (I seem to be able to solve questions from topics like optics more easily). Also, could you suggest a revision startegy so that I don't forget what has been taught a while back? Thanks in advance.
ReplyDeletehi aman,
ReplyDeleteI want to take up research later on as a profession .
Assuming I don't get into IISc what should I do?

ReplyDeleteBhaiya I will be completing my eleventh(science) in a week or two (including my final exam..... My exam's are going on). I don't know why but I wanted to become a CA (it would have actually been a very wrong decision of my life if I would have taken commerce as I actually had no interest in that field). I am madly passionate about computers, robotics especially cars. In fact I even have my drone design ready...honestly.(but was a fool thinking of becoming CA). After tenth me and my family would have long stretches of discussion on my career which I was not at all serious( my father saved me from taking that wrong decision). As time has passed I have realized my mistake. The problem begin's here. Now a year has passed and I have only a year left for JEE and I am negligibly prepared for that fierce battle of JEE. Now I want to...... I want to get in an IIT. I myself want to (no one is forcing me). I have realized my mistake. But now I don't know where to start from. I have not concentrated on studies at all in eleventh(most of the time just being upset over a right decision like fool). Till 10th I was one of the bright student of class and in eleventh I have become one of the fools. I enrolled for BYJU the learning app which is just tooooooo good. But like fool I didn't followed its study plan. Now it's a do or die situation. Will I be able to complete my eleventh, twelve syllabus for JEE as well as my board syllabus .??? In one year I have to compete with those students who will have completed two ...even three or four..years of practice. Please guide me. How shall I study?? Abhi toh IIT Jana hai chahe kuch bhi ho jaye. Again I would say no one is forcing me..... My father just tried to provide a direction for my turbulent flow. Kya karu ,kaise padhu. Because of this tension I am not able to concentrate on going exams. I am in such a poor condition that I will have to give a retest of physics and may be even maths to clear my eleventh. With a heavy heart and collecting guts I am writing this ....kyunki abhi nahi toh kabhi nahi. I want to face the reality . I need help.. Kyunki Ek saal ke bad mai apne apko gali nahi dena chahta nahi puri jindagi apne ap ko kosna chahta ......aur nahi yeh kehna chahta ki "Ek saal tha thodi mehnat kar leta toh aaaj life kuch aur hoti." I am really serious. Please help.
ReplyDeleteBhaiya, I am currently in Class XII taking Jee preparation. I am from Nagpur taking coaching from IIT-HOME (yup, its the same from where Chandra Maloo secured AIR 1 in Jee Mains 2013).
ReplyDeleteI was a preety good student when I started my Jee preparation after my Class X results were out. Then in the starting exams I secured very good marks and was preety excited that I would land up in the first batch. But not so, I actually landed up in 4 batch(I couldn't figure out how. I had 90%in all the tests even then.) This lowered my confidence and I worked harder then I got 3 batch. But I aimed for 1 batch again. Amd my moral went down again. I regretted over and over.
Finally because I could not do better in tests and my scores went on decreasing. Rather I had lack of motivation. I then again started hard. But now, after the mains results are out, I have scored merely 133/360 in Jee Mains 2017. I am really confused about what to do now. REALLY, I AM FEELING TO JUST DIE. It's because I aimed for IIT and I ended up with this result. What Should I do now? I am basically from a poor financial background and I also cannot take a drop(money is the main concern). But I aim for IIT now, What should I do? Should I take a drop?
Wow, this is indeed motivating! Although I was quite motivated to crack the JEE with an <50 rank since class 8, reading this blog has totally changed my outlook! I am currently in 10th, and study about 7-8 hours a day for NTSE and JEE (Foundation). Thanks for providing that spark, Aman bhaiya! Will go through the blog once again thoroughly and print out important blog posts regarding motivation, books etc. once I am done with my class X boards.
ReplyDeleteHi,Sir....my name is Prakhar.I m very much self motivated . I am in 12 and have only 10 months to prepare for JEE MAIN AND ADVANCED. I have to prepare the syllabus of 11th and 12th simultaneously because I decided to prepare for JEE very late in 11th half year........I want to study CSE at IITB or IITK....
