And the fight continues

At FIITJEE, regular all India tests were organized. I was regularly analyzing my performance in each test. It was during these tests that I learnt a very good habit - "always note down the mistakes that you committed in a particular test and make sure that you don't repeat it in the next test." This is a very important task and is basically the ONLY thing that distinguishes toppers from others.
I used to solve FIITJEE packages and simultaneously, past years JEE problems.
The following are the books that I referred besides the material provided by FIITJEE:

PHYSICS

  1. Mechanics: HC Verma and IE Irodov (don't get scared by this book, it's not that difficult as people exaggerate)
  2. Other parts of physics: HC Verma(Please don't neglect the Objective 1 and 2 problems of HCV. They are the best collection of questions for more than one correct type questions). Also do read NCERT Physics at least once after completing the syllabus. You will definitely find new things that you have never heard of.

CHEMISTRY

  • Physical Chemistry: NCERT and OP Tondon (sometimes) and RC Mukherjee for questions
  • Organic Chemistry: NCERT and LG Wade (Pearson Education - Best book for organic chemistry)
  • Inorganic Chemistry: NCERT(very very important. Learn each and every alphabet of NCERT for this) and JD LEE(only for reference, don't pick up this one if you don't have spare time).

MATHS

  • Algebra: Tata McGraw Hill (TMH)
  • Calculus: Arihant (for both, differential and integral calculus)
  • Co-ordinate geometry: Arihant again
  • Trigonometry: no specific book, although RD Sharma is sufficient for this or ML Agarwal (ICSE Board maths book)

The above is the set of books that I used. Maybe some of them don't suit you. So it's better to choose your books wisely.
Another piece of advice - DON'T fill your cupboard with a lot of books. In the end you will get confused. Read the theory from a single Standard textbook and move on to solving questions from multiple books

  1. bhaiyya,i am a bit confused...should i go for the xtra material(besides fiitjee packages) which my fiitjee teachers suggest or any other of my own choice? Were the books u have mentioned above suggested by ur fiitjee teachers or u bought them as per ur own choice?

    ReplyDelete
  2. Trying new packages is always recommended provided you solve them and extract the best out of them.
Just making a collection of 100s of packages and not solving any of them is dangerous.
Stick to a package, complete it earnestly then proceed to others only if time permits.
Also make sure that important Chapters are to be given more attention. For example, gravitation is not am important chapter for Jee so you would not like to waste time in it. But it's important for olympiads so you must solve more subjective questions from it.
Books: some were suggested, some were not(they were Googled)

    2. nd where can we get the subjective questions for olympiads..?

    5. Yes it's a good idea to have an idea of what is going to be covered so that you understand the things better.
For subjective olympiad questions: you should Google past year papers of INPhO.
I would suggest waiting for NSEP results.
There is enough time after NSEP to prepare for INPhO

  3. hey suppose you dont perform good in first 3 phases but do perform very well in the rest of phases .(phase 4 onwards to 7)
is it possible then to get top 50 rank in 2015?

    ReplyDelete
  4. my phase test 1 score : 153/240
there were 2 students from bhilai getting 232/240 in the same test
now : me air 33 and they air > 100 both (check fiitjee bhilai result on fiitjee website and you will get to know)
almost same was the scenario in phase test 2
but my performance improved from phase test 3 onwards

  5. hello happy new year to you aman !
how was your concentration like during your preparation for iit .......i mean was it like 100% or did sometimes other things too come into your mind ?
and also wat was your speed in solving questions like ....say for example in a typical hc verma rotational mechanics question or co-geo question ...?
also how to improve concentration power and speed.
speed can be increased to a large extent by practicing clearly but wat abt concentration ..?
    thnx in advance ..:D

    1. Thanks and same to you.
Initially my concentration was not "That" good. But later on , I became serious (in class 12th) about my JEE preparation and I tried not to divert my mind and it helped. Basically I was motivated to achieve my target.
Well my speed depended on type of question.
I can't really express that here.
Concentration can be increased by solving the problems a bit slowly

  13. Should we learn all the derivations n corollaries of formulas in pcm for IITJEE with pen nd paper?or just learning them by studying them will suffice??

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Of course, you should know "all" of them thoroughly. Because the papers setters are too smart. They can frame questions from the derivations itself and fool you.
They know how to frame questions that will test your real understanding of the subject.

Read them and try to make out what topics are more important and require special attention.
I request you to first read the entire blog and then post your questions.

  16. Hi AMAN,

I am about to enter in class 12th in 2 months. I had good preparation time in class 11th and covered most of my syllabus. But one thing in which i am lacking is the feel of high competition or i can say the DO OR DIE attitude. The basic problem is that i have still not released how important in class 12th for me. I will be appearing for JEE in 2015. Please tell us about the kind of attitude u had during class 12th?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Class 12th is extremely important
The syllabus of class 12th is crucial.
Basically in class 11th, you are taught the tools
You apply those tools to problem solving in class 12th
For example , you studied mechanics in class 11th right.
In class 12th, you will apply what you studied in mechanics to the problems of electromagnetism, thermodynamics, modern physics and what not.
So ensure that you are ready for another good year in class 12th.
Loose your grip and you are bound to fall down.

Can u advice me some good advice regarding class 12th JEE preparation? Suggest me some tips so that i don't fall down in class 12th? I want to really crack JEE at any cost for computer science iitb or iitd?

    3. You are aiming for something different - one of the best IIT and one of the best branch.
So, accordingly you are expected to work differently.
There aren't really any tips. Just focus on what you have been doing - preparing for JEE with sincerity, without wasting time.

    4. Hi Aman,

What do u mean by work differently? Can u explain by giving an example.

      Delete
    5. If I will tell the meaning of "work differently", then it will no more remain "differently". It will become "follow me".
      You understand my point ?

    1. This is what you are supposed to learn in those 2 years of JEE preparation.
JEE preparation is all about choosing the right question and doing it in a given time.
Given a question paper and a deadline, you are supposed to choose the easiest questions.
By now you should be able to figure this out just by looking at the question

1)did u make notes in all the 3 subjects?
2)my tutorial provides me a JEE COMPENDIUM....consisting all possible important formulas to solve problems(in all the 3 subjects)....should that suffice as the required notes which r meant to be revised time to time?what do u say?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yes, I always made notes.
No, the compendiums are usually not sufficient. Your own hand written notes are better because they are made by you, especially for you. So they are the best.
