For me, Maths seemed to be the toughest nut to crack. I always committed silly mistakes in Maths. There are a few books that are very helpful for this.
1.) Calculus : for this, Arihant integral and differential calculus is the best book. It contains enough objective as well as subjective questions that are required for Jee.
2.) Coordinate Geometry : again Arihant coordinate geometry is the best book.
3.) Vectors and 3-D : for this, I used M.L. Agarwal book. This book is the prescribed book for ISC board and is really good for basics.
4.) Trigonometry : any board level book is sufficient for this. Rd Sharma would be a good option.
5.) Algebra : TMH (Tata McGrawHill) is a good option for this.
Maths requires a lot of practice to be a master. You need a really good exposure to a variety of problems rather than just reading the theory portion again and again.
Basal coaching sheets are also helpful. Most important thing in Maths is getting a good exposure to a variety of problems.
As the experts say JEE ADVANCED 2013 had the toughest maths section till now.And to me also maths seems the toughest nut to crack.....so should i do above jee level maths to get a good hold on maths section?how did u tackle the maths section?
ReplyDeletebhaiya please reply??????????
DeleteSee it's true that JEE 2013 had on of the toughest maths section till now.
DeleteYou can't do anything about it. It was not only tough for me but also tough for everyone.
Just practice as many problems as you can rather than reading the theory again and again.
Remember : school level books are the books that make your fundamentals strong
just above you have written school level books make fundamentals strong means if l do ncert then is it almost perfect
DeleteHi aman...u recommended the book SK Goyal for coordinate..the Arihant one...I saw it had many results and derived formulas..like those which were for certain situations..like if two point are given..the formula for the third point of the equaliteral triangle is given...so are they necessarily imp to learn..because they are too many..!!??
ReplyDeleteIt all depends on you. These formulas are really not needed but these are the ones that are going to help you do the things faster. So better give them a glance. You can derive them during the exam but keeping in mind the structure of formula will help you to check your derivation's correctness. Practice a few questions involving thes. Formulas and you are done. They will automatically settle in your mind.

ReplyDeletehi AMAN,
ReplyDeletehow to make the best use of NCERT books in all the subjects(pcm) for jee ?
i mean what all has to be done from the ncert book of maths, physics , and chemistry prior to jee main and advanced?
You have to cover each alphabet of ncert chemistry, each word of ncert physics and each line of ncert maths.
ReplyDeleteThis is all that I can say.
Your are wise enough to understand what I mean.
Hi AMAN,
ReplyDeletethanks for your early reply.
it would be really helpful for me if u can provide me the review or the personal experiences regarding JEE of some of your batch mates. I know some of them including Karan Vaidya bhaiya, he was my senior in my coaching institute. he got an AIR 12. I could not talk too him after the results came out. Do you know Anand Bhosrakar? Please add his own personal experiences and the books he used during the jee preparation in your reply. His brother too fetch a very good rank in JEE.
Mail me on the email id below:
(priyanshyadav512@gmail.com)
Yes I know both of them, they stay on the same floor as I and most of my time infact is spent with my friends only.
ReplyDeleteI am currently at my home till 31st December(enjoying my vacations).
I'll ask them to do so when I go back.
But it's Your responsibility to remind me
bhaiyya i also want 2 knw their experiences and i think everyone who follows ur blog would like to..
Deletesure i would ask them. but most of them are too lazy to write something (yes we are lazy!).
Deletebut i will request them once again and i hope they will agree/
Hi Aman,
ReplyDeleteHow do jee toppers effectively make study plan for a day or a week? Explain it by giving an example of any topper or yours on how did you plan things when you were a jee aspirant?
Yes they do make.
ReplyDeleteAt night when you are about to sleep, then it's very important to decide what your next day's plan is going to be.
You just need to know what your next day's target would be.
For example, I used to plan that . Have to study carbonyl compounds from LG wade, practice some electrostatics questions from package and revise binomial theorem say from Arihant.
This helped a lot.
Because having an idea of what you are going to do the next day is always good
bhaiyaa, im appearing fr iit in 2014, nd im still nt confident in math .hardly months left... so are they any specific books for iit jee [all sub] which contains good collection of questions nd can definitely fetch iit???
ReplyDeleteGo for TMH(tata McGraw hill).
DeleteThat's the best book available and contains plenty of objective problems for you to practice.
did u mean this book-
Deletehttp://www.flipkart.com/comprehensive-mathematics-jee-advanced-2014-1st/p/itmdhs3qt83tujug?pid=9781259064272&icmpid=reco_pp_same_book_3
hey i wanna ask you that why didnt you stick with just one book for mathematics instead of going for so many....i mean for example doing questions from all topics from tmh ..also do you know of this book called ml khanna ....if yes then how would you rate it compared to tmh . also can you gice me the full name of tmh book that you followed because i searched for it and i get many editions of it(and most of them are out of print on flipkart or not available).
ReplyDeleteTMH is not the perfect book to achieve a good (say double digit) rank.
DeleteHowever solving that book ensures selection.
There are variety of books available and for each topic you will have to refer the book that covers that particular topic best.
you just can't depend on a single book because it is highly unlikely that the book covers all the topics perfectly.
yes i am aware of ml khanna and my advice would be to stay away from that fat book. It's useless according to me and the solutions to the problems show you how to just apply formula and get the answer rather than giving you a feel of the problem.
TMH = Tata mcgraw hill (there is only 1 book)
can you elaborate what does refer to a book means
DeleteHey aman..are derivations important to remember ..for jee...or is it better to just remember the formula and its application..if one can...for eg...coming back to circles..one knows the formula for finding the eqn of tangent to a circle..is it still important and necessary to know how was the formula derived???
ReplyDeleteJEE tests your fundamentals so derivations are necessary.
DeleteThey are well aware that most students just mug up the end result so they ask questions from the derivations too!
For arihant coordinate geometry Is it necessary to do the subjective questions at the end of the chapter ??
ReplyDeleteCan you please explain how you used it
Yeah I solved the subjective problems too. That's why I was really good at co-ordinate geometry
Deletedon't ignore the subjective problems - you will regret
even i never practiced subjective problems of algebra and i am poor at that.
DO YOU USED TO SPEND TIME ON QUES WHICH YOU CANNOT SOLVE IF YES APPROX HOW MUCH!!!! WE SHOULD COUNT OUR STUDY HOURS BY THE TIME WE DEVOTE TO QUES WHICH WE CANNOT SOLVE
ReplyDeleteTalking about maths, I never wasted time in thinking about a problem and immediately I used to see the solution and "I deeply regret this".
DeleteHere when I came to iitb, I saw that people here spend a lot of time in thinking and in the end they do find the solution to any problem.
Never do what I did. Always give the problem some time(say 10-15 minutes depending upon you IQ level)
And yes what do you mean by "counting study hours"?
You are going in the wrong direction. By "counting" your study hours, whom are you going to prove yourself? If you show it to your parents that you are studying 10 hours a day when actually you aren't, then you are cheating yourself and not them.
JEE is all about self motivation, self satisfaction.
Read the post "why should I clear JEE"
you didnot did the classic series in maths it is said best for building concepts but time consumingbut in calculus should we go for it
ReplyDeleteBy classic series are you referring to "I A Maron " calculus?
DeleteIf yes, then I haven't tried it. I can't comment on something that I haven't tried
i mean to say is arihant book calculus is enough to get single digit rank
ReplyDeletemeans should go for thomas finney
Thomas finney? Are you kidding me?
DeleteIt begins with epsilon - delta definition of "limit" which is not taught until B.Tech first year.
Arihant books are more than enough
Thomas finney is far far beyond a JEE aspirants reach.
In case you still want the book, then I have the ebook and I swear it will be useless for you.
If not the epsilon - delta definition, how else did you learn the definition of a limit.( The epsilon delta definition is there in class 11 textbook)
Deletesorry but are they really enouhg from theory point of view means by doing them only you can score 110+/120 in maths
ReplyDeleteAs I mentioned in my comment in another post.
Delete"not just possessing the resources will do. You should know how to extract the best out of them"
Hi AMAN,
ReplyDeleteIs RD Sharma a base book for calculus? How did you started studying calculus? I mean which book did you choose for base
I studied a bit of calculus in class 10th so I had an detailed idea of what it was all about.
DeleteTill class 10th, I was an ICSE board student so I used ML agarwal maths book which is awesome for a start.
But RD Sharma is no less. It is also one of the most preferred book for a start.
Do have any idea about IIT mathematics by A.Das gupta??
ReplyDeleteI have heard of this book.
DeleteIt has pretty good reviews but I haven't tried it.
Hey Aman,
ReplyDeletedid you study rotated conics or is it out of jee syllabus,
You are expected to have some idea of rotated conics. Not in detail but you shouldn't go completely blank if you see something like that in JEE
DeleteHey Aman
ReplyDeleteI've started with algebra though im very weak at it so I've made a strategy
for a topic xyz
first ill cover it through ncert
second rd Sharma objective
third mcq mathematics from das Gupta
fourth rsm modules
is it sufficent of jee ?? I mean im aming for a single or a two digit rank and i want to be surely be confident on algebra ..... If there is any better resource possible plzz tell , i don't for coaching so i have lot of time to invest in algebra say 1-1.5 hours though im studying geometry parallel to it if there is any better and smarter way to learn algebra that u think would help pllzz suggest !
as regards practicing questions, tmh mains and tmh advanced are the best combo ever
DeleteHey aman..how is ML Khanna for maths..?? I am not able to get the TMH u r talking about..so..will ML Khanna be a good alternative to it??
ReplyDeletehttp://www.flipkart.com/course-mathematics-iit-jee-2012-1st/p/itmczyz2axpff5yj
Deletehere is a link to TMH.
Otherwise : ML Khanna isn't the right book according to me
This link shows that this product is discontinued. Could you please suggest any newer version?
Deletehi aman..why do u not prefer ml khanna?? and also.. the link u have given is of the right book bt it shows that it is out of stock..the book is available nowhere..so what to do??
ReplyDeletewell for book i can't say anything
Deletefor ml khanna : not at all a good book. it contains numerous questions of same type and the method of solving(solutions) is poor (formula based)
Hey IMG, a newer version of the book mentioned by Aman is now available at Flipkart. Check it down here :-
Deletehttp://bit.ly/1aawGN9
Hope it helps!
Hey Naman..I askd bat the same book bt Aman is not too sure bat dis being the one he referred to..so..im still searching for the one he referred..thnxx for help though!!
DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
DeleteThis is the same book.Actually after the JEE was divided into Main and Advanced, the TMH Maths for AIEEE (http://bit.ly/L5Bcnw) was converted into COMP MATHEMATICS JEE MAIN 2014 (http://bit.ly/1drKAh0) and the TMH Maths for IIT-JEE 2012 (http://bit.ly/1hlooEg) was converted into Comprehensive Mathematics - JEE Advanced 2014 (http://bit.ly/1aawGN9) .So what Aman is referring to is the TMH Maths for IIT-JEE 2012 (http://bit.ly/1hlooEg) which has now been converted into Comprehensive Mathematics - JEE Advanced 2014 (http://bit.ly/1aawGN9). Hope this solves your confusion . BEST OF LUCK for your exam.
DeleteHi AMAN,
ReplyDeleteCan u please compare between books by KC SINHA series for maths and Maths individual books(algebra, co-geometry, calculus etc.) by arihant publication?
i haven't tried KC Sinha series so i can't say
DeleteHello Aman, I am practising problems from arihant(calculus) but I am not able to solve them in two minutes. It takes me about 10-15 min to do each problem but I am able to solve most of them. I am afraid I will lose my marks because of this. Please advise me what should I do?
ReplyDeleteYou should practice ample of problems. If you are for JEE 15, then be patience. Developing speed will take time. If you are for JEE 14, then ......
DeleteI am preparing for jee14. Please reply.
ReplyDeleteYou must practice, practice and practice. Only practice can help you, nothing else
DeleteDid they taught you shortcuts for solving mcqs at fiitjee? Are there any? A local coaching near my house are conducting a crash course in march and they say they'll teach how to solve faster with some shortcuts. Should I go for it or should I better revise and practice more? Please advice me. It is a crucial decision.
Deleteof course, there are hardly any shortcuts.
DeleteBut there are ways to make intelligent guesses which may be useful for JEE main.
How is the book "New pattern IIT-JEE mathematics(2 volumes)" as compared to TMH?
ReplyDeletewat book to practise in to fully strengthen up algebra esp,p and c and prob. i hav done arihant algebra to sum extent but beyond it it's too difficult
ReplyDeleteMillions of time i have mentioned the name of TMH
DeleteBhaiya you said even u committed careless mistakes how did you curb them, Despite knowing every question I end up getting less than that expected, what to do?
ReplyDeleteIt's very difficult to cure this disease of silly mistakes.
DeleteI made silly mistakes in JEE too.
Sorry, I can't help it.
All I can say is that solve problems slowly but correctly
Thanks for the prompt reply... :-)
ReplyDeleteI was weak in coordinate geometry but now I am pretty good at it,as I found arihant coordinate geometry very useful (thanks for your recommendation).
ReplyDeleteBut i have a question:
Is it a must to solve the unsolved subjective questions??
(As the solved subjective questions(around 50) are a bit tricky and are very good..!!!)
So is it advisable to do the unsolved subjective(most of which are tough,i feel) ones also or If I address this issue by solving ARCHIVE will I gain confidence in coordinate geometry....
As you are very good at coordinate geometry in you jee preparation days did you solve the unsolved subjective of arihant also??
This comment has been removed by the author.
Deleteyes i did solve unsolved subjective problems.
DeleteBut, I would say that if you feel confident enough, then you may skip them.
Make sure that you must be confident but not over confident.
All the best
Did you solve all the questions of calculus from arihant (amit agarwal)
ReplyDeletei mean to say from the illustrations to exercise to the soved subjective and objective problems to finally the proficiency exercise
yes, almost all
DeleteIn solution of triangle are m-n theorem, Appolinious theorem required?
ReplyDeleteAppolonious theorem is important.
DeleteSo is m-n theorem :)
Thanks alot,
DeleteIs there anything else thats not included in RD Sharma? Do you mind giving me a list specifiyng the ones not mentioned directly in JEE syllabus?
There are millions of such things.
DeleteRD Sharma is just a base book to give you a quick start.
You will have to cover a number of things besides RD Sharma.
A list cannot be made because number of such topic is too large.
However, I request you to have a look at this link
https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0BytWF29ZwGnTcFhEVkltal9UbWs&usp=sharing
Thanks,
Deletewould you say that this is a list of all concepts to be tested in JEE?
No, this is a list of the topics which you are expected to know. They may or may not be tested.
DeleteOk,
Deletewould it be recommended to follow it perfectly topic by topic?
Is there still time, I will be appearing for JEE 2014?
It's just a sort of check list to ensure that you haven't missed out anything.
DeleteThe link of the list of topic provided above is not opening
DeleteIt is working (at least for me) :)
DeleteSure.

ReplyDeletein this post u mentioned that u used bansal sheets for mathematics apart from using TMH (for algebra) ARIHANT (for the entire calculus),....so did u solve the entire basal sheet or some selected topics and if some selected topics that what are they??
ReplyDeleteI solved some selected topics :
DeleteTrigonometry
Calculus
Permutations and combinations
Probability
and a few more
Since my school is not dummy like urs.what can I do to save time to do a lot of problems. bhaiya pls reply fast as much as u can.thx
ReplyDeleteSorry, I can't help it
DeleteIf I knew how to handle school + JEE, then I would never have left my school
hey..!.from where can i get good level questions of logarithms, inequalities and mods..?
ReplyDeleteTMH
Deleteshould i first try the solved examples myself or directly see the solution in maths? the solved examples of TMH are very tough(algebra)
ReplyDeleteDon't solve TMH for "developing" concepts.
DeleteTMH is slightly tough
So solve it only when you are confident in a particular topic and just want to try some challenging problems.
did u prcisely used these bansal notes that r there on the google drive from where did u get the bansal sheets?
ReplyDeleteI never tried them. I found them so I uploaded them
DeleteI am a 2015 IITJEE ASPIRANT.....AIMING FOR A 2 DIGIT RANK....i have downloaded the material OF MATHEMATICS(Session-2005-07) OF BANSAL CLASSES which u shared with us.....it contains graded subjective questions as well as previous years' JEE problems......can i use it as my textbook for mathematics and not do the standard textbooks like SK Goyal,A.Agarwal?is the Bansal material the right substitute to such textbooks?
ReplyDeleteSee, I haven't read that material myself. I found it so I shared it.
DeletePS : Nothing can be a substitute for a good book
U said u had TMH....i have Arihant (Objective Approach to Mathematics)....more or less equivalent to TMH.....so...
ReplyDelete1)should i use it or FIITJEE ARCHIVE as my revision material PARALLEL TO 12TH preparation...
2)If u say to use Arihant.....please tell me the way to make the best use out of it?(because it has many many solved examples+many unsolved objective questions...average is around 200-250....and i think that much number of problems cannot be solved parallel to 12th preparation)...so please suggest the best way to use it...
3)I'm planning to use Bansal DPP+BT packages for doing problems during preparation phase(though i'l do the theory from Arihant series)....can it ensure NO FLAWS IN MY CONCEPTS?is my decision right?
Hi AMAN,
ReplyDeleteI am planning to buy RD SHARMA IN CLASS 12TH and solve it instead of solving NCERT MATHS BOOK 12th.
Provide ur suggestion over my plan.
Good idea. But it is meant only to give you a quick start
DeleteHi bhaiya
ReplyDeleteI hv jst rchd class 12... Whenevr i solve paper i gt good score in phy nd chem bt in maths i lose abt 30marks.. I nvr gt enough time in the paper to give my best in maths..cn u suggest somethng so tht i cn boost up my math scores along with retatining the phy nd chem scores
Practice as many problems as you can. This is all I can say.
DeleteIt rarely happens that someone is good at all 3 subjects
Hi AMAN,
ReplyDeleteCan u give me some tips on how to use class 12th ncert maths book so that i am able to manage at coaching level and school level?
Is it necessary to cover all the calculus from NCERT before they are taught at coaching institute?
How did u use this book?
Is it good to solve miscellaneous problems from this book?
This comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteIs RD Sharma IIT Mathematics good?
ReplyDeleteJust for knowledge.....how many of bansal maths sheets problems could u solve on your own????
ReplyDeletewhich is best-
ReplyDelete1.objective maths by rd sharma
2. objective approach to maths by amit m agarwal(arihant publications)
3. iit maths by ml khanna
Aman I am not so good at math. Am a repeater . what shall be my strategy for scoring 100 in jee main in maths part
ReplyDeletefor vectors and 3d is rdsharma a good option over what u did?
ReplyDeletepls tell I m in a fix?
ReplyDeletehello...
ReplyDeleteSir I want to ask that among TMH mains & ml. khanna which one would be more easy comparitivil ?
i am presently in 11th , and i am a litttle weak in mathematics........
so please suggest some book for the same
Sir please reply....
Aman bhaiya i am facing some issues i have sk goyal both coordinate & algebra when i jump to exercise i could do hardly 7out of 20 questions so what do you think lacking in me
ReplyDeleteHello aman , this is Shravan a 2017 jee aspirant , aman if we solve each and problem of Objective Approach To Mathematics by Amit M Agarwal (Both volumes) is it possible to score more than 90% in a paper like 2015 jee advanced maths (i.e only the toughness and not marking system)
ReplyDeletePlease reply , thank u
ReplyDeleteHi Aman ,
ReplyDeleteShould i solve TMH along with the course or at the end ?? ( December etc)
i Also have Bansal material.
Hey bro is there any chance that u were taught by manidhar tripathi (mkt) sir?
ReplyDeleteWell, he didn't actually teach me, but he helped me a lot to improve my calculus knowledge in the end by making me solve harder problems
DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteHi!!!
ReplyDeleteThis is sarvesh...
Is it matters that how we are in initial stages of preparation...??
Maybe, maybe not
Deletewhich is the best book for problems- A DAS GUPTA vs TMH ?
ReplyDeleteTMH is divided into 2 part. one for jee main and one for jee advanced. Which should i buy?

Deletehi aman , i want to know that which book would be good for advanced level problem solving....my basics are clear and all i need is high level problems for JEE advanced
ReplyDeletehi aman i had question that you have been recommending names of many books for preparation out of which most of them are 500 rupees plus so where can we get this books @cheap rates
ReplyDeletepls can u tell which book is better for building concepts - rd Sharma or Tata mcgraw hill?
ReplyDeleteBhaiya i have given jee main 2016 yesterday i am a droper i am about to get 183 number with no bonus my chem is very poor.besides this suggrst me about i just want now cracking iit in life .suggest me plz about how i get rank near 2000 rank plz mere badde bhaiya. if it is possible to sent messsage via sms on 09794601085 plz bcz i can not able to see post on internet type a your small brother from raebareli sms kar dena plz
ReplyDeleteAman should i begin a new chapter with rd sharma and then move to tmh or should i directly solve tmh?
ReplyDeleteAlong with TMH and Arihant objective, do you suggest any other book for practice ?
ReplyDeleteHii should i use I A maron for calculas .is it good ?
ReplyDeleteCan you give some tips on how to solve problems (especially maths) faster. My teacher says me to complete a problem in 2 minutes. I know that speed is key for a simple problemding it difficult even for JEE but i am finding it difficult even for a simple problem.
ReplyDeleteHey,Aman Should I use ML khanna or Sk Goyal for algebra?
ReplyDeleteOk to skip ncert math and just do rd sharma?
ReplyDeleteI feel that reading both ncert and rd sharma will take too long.. Can i just read rd sharma for theory and move on to other jee materials(arihanth etc.)?.. Or is vise-versa better(read ncert, no need rd sharma and move to jee books...?) Or do you have to do both?..
Bhaiya I have made my basics strong so now should I refer tmh mc graw hill
ReplyDeleteBhaiya please suggest me, which one is a better book or which sections to practiced form each book
ReplyDeletenew pattern mathematics / a das gupta / TMH / M L Khanna
and what for good theory
Your perspective on the Preparation is awesome.
ReplyDeleteHi bro
ReplyDeleteIs ml khannna a good book in today's pattern
is Thomas' calculus + ia maron best ?
ReplyDelete
