Beginning of my JEE Preparation

In class 10th, I was taken to IIT-Kanpur by my school. That was simply an "amazing" place to be at -"huge campus", "one of the largest libraries of India", "sophisticated laboratories" and everything else you can imagine about a reputed engineering college. It was this day that I decided that I have to get into the IITs. I got a target for me. Soon after my board exams got over, I started to look for a good training institute for IIT-JEE 2013 preparation - tough task indeed.

Most of the coaching institutes claim that - "we are the best, we produce the best results." So, it was very difficult to choose the right institute. But, in the end, I decided to join FIITJEE Kanpur - a great decision indeed.

I missed the FTRE - "FIITJEE Talent Reward Exam", but I appeared for FIITJEE's admission test(in April 2011) and got 65% tuition fee waiver.
The classes began on 29th April, 2011. We had about 35 students in our class. It was at this moment that I took a life changing decision for me - "I Left my school (ICSE Board) and joined a CBSE Board dummy school". In dummy schools, attendance is not at all mandatory. So I got sufficient time for my JEE preparation and I prepared for the exam of my life, whole heartedly.
I believe that joining a coaching institute gives a direction to one's preparation. Self study is also a good option but for doubt clearance and a healthy competition, a coaching institute is a good choice.
And now, the long journey began.

    2. plan and study that's all.
It's really simple man. Go ahead, no one is stopping you.
You have a hell lot of time.
Make use of it and forget such questions.
Time and tide wait for none.
If you will waste time today, then tomorrow time will waste you.

  8. Hi AMAN,

how did u make notes in class 12th during JEE preparation.
in maths and physics there are many formulas and derivations to learn, Is there any need of learning the derivations for iitjee? what is the importance of these derivations apart from board exams? Are questions made based on derivations in IITJEE?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Learning formulas :
Don't just learn formulas, understand them and their derivations. And most importantly, solve numerous problems. By solving problems, the formula will get fixed in your mind and you will not have to memorize it explicitly as a formula.
For example - even after 7-8 months, I still remember all the formulae of electrostatics (the are innumerable formulae in that chapter) and I am able to apply then here (yes, we have an electromagnetism course in this semester). All this is because I loved that topic.

Derivations : extremely important from the point of JEE advanced. Paper setters know that most students would just mug up the end results and sit for JEE. So, they have started framing questions from derivations.
For example - suppose I tell you that potential by a point charge is k/r^2 instead of k/r. Now how will electric field vary ?
Derivations from modern physics are the most important ones

    2. Hi AMAN,

How did u manage so many derivations in IITJEE preparation.
Can u tell me on which chapters formulas derivations u emphasized more? How do we check that which derivations are important for iitjee and are in the eyes of the question paper setters? Do we need to learn the derivation of all the formulas in the conic sections?

      Delete
    3. Sorry, I missed this one.
      ALL the derivations are important.
Especially those which are present in NCERT.
Yes, almost all derivations of conic sections are important

  9. hey, did u study topics of jee or at least of 11th,12th beforehand.? like in 9th and 10th? as some(many?) students do.?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Unfortunately no, I never studied those topics.
I never thought of this idea. I was just a mediocre student till class 10th.
I enjoyed 9th and 10th and wasted infinite time.
      Many student do that.
Here I have friends who are preparing for JEE from class 8th.
Some of them knew the topics of class 11th in class 9th itself.
It is advisable to start from the beginning.

    2. Ohh.... Maybe ppl start as early as 8th stndrd(or even below.. :P) coz of sole interest in science and maths nd jee becomes just a pretext... But whatever.. ,if some1 can get a 33rd AIR in JEE(33 in iit..?seriously..?? holy sh*t.. :P)... after starting prep. in 11th(not to mention the prestigious olympiads u cleared).. it just shows that the only thing required to do well is motivation(like in case iitK).

    3. I'm on my drop year right now(ya i screwed jee 2013) and almost done with my prep(well i know that no n amount of prep. Is enuf for jee).... 19. Hello Sir!

I've decided to write Fiitjee's admission's test as that's the only best possible option.

Could you please mention some general topics(if not all) from which I can prepare in all 3 subjects, as I badly need to get a fee waiver >50%?

If possible do mention what all you did days before the admission test.

    Thanks!!

Though ur choice of joining some good institute must have been on sound Reece. I m not preferring for some inst. Rather some subject teachers like PhD iit chemistry(writes books also) maths iit writing books for good publisher. Is it advisable to follow the mix of studying this ways...taking some faeries test of reputed inst. ReferRing books recommended in ur blog and following some scientific recommended techniques for study and keeping balance...
