The result day

On the result day, unfortunately I was in New Delhi (enjoying the post JEE time).
The results were supposed to be announced on 23rd June 2013 but 21st June's newspaper said - "JEE results are likely to be announced today at 5.00 PM". We all became excited because we were expecting a good result.
Around 4.50 PM we opened JEE site - and it opened well.
Sharply at 5 , the server went down and the site didn't open. I was excited to know my result. Thanks to my friend Kartikeya Gupta(AIR 4 in JEE 2013) who checked my result and told me my rank.
We all were happy. My mother hugged me.
"IITB CS - yes it is!!" was my reaction. I received congratulations call from numerous friends and relatives. I also got a number of calls from various newspapers - they interviewed me and next day Kanpur's newspaper was flooded with my JEE result - see it yourself

It was a great feeling. The session 2012-2013 was one of the best for me. Here are a few accomplishments :
  • JEE Advanced 2013 : AIR 33(IIT Kanpur Zone Topper)
  • JEE Main 2013 : Score 323/360 (AIR 617 after including Board exams result)

  • ICSE 2011 : 97.4% with 96/100 in Science and 98/100 in Mathematics
  • CBSE Certificate of Merit for being in the top 0.1% in Physics
  • Selected to appear for Indian National Physics Olympiad(INPhO) camp and awarded Gold medal
  • Selected to appear for Indian National Chemistry Olympiad(INChO) camp
  • Cleared National standard Examination in Physics and Chemistry
  • Selected to appear for Asian Physics olympiad , Bogor , Indonesia (8 student team)
  • Cleared KVPY 2013 (written exam + interview)
  • Awarded AP grade for exceptional performance in Engineering Drawing(given to 8 students out of 423) , Calculus(given to 8 students out of 875) , Physical Chemistry(given to 3 students out of 875) , Linear Algebra(given to 11 students out of 872) and Differential Equations(given to 14 students out of 884) courses with a CGPA of 9.86 at IIT Bombay

  1. Hi AMAN,

Was calculus your strongest part in mathematics during you iitjee mathematics preparation?
Do you have any tips for calculus? What is the best way of starting the calculus for JEE preparation?

    1. No boy! not at all
Co-ordinate geometry was something I was good at during my JEE days
IIT calculus is completely different from IITJEE calculus.
      Here in IIT , you have to prove that limit of x tending to 2 , f(x) = x is 2 !!!!

  4. Which is better for maths in practicing? TMH or New pattern IIT JEE SK Goyal by Arihant pub.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Never heard of "New pattern IIT JEE SK Goyal by Arihant pub"
TMH is good for practicing if you are aiming for a good rank.
However some problems are exceptionally tough(especially problems of algebra) and are not really needed for JEE

    1. coaching institute - decide it yourself.
I have never been to any of these , although I have friends in all the 4 coaching institutes (my roomie is from narayana infact).
so i can't say anything. JEE = 90% of your work and 10% of coaching support.
your advice is good. all jee aspirants do such planning (even i did so) but it is next to impossible to follow such a routine.
Do keep in mind = too many cooks spoil the broth(i am repeating this because possessing 100s of books is different and solving them is different)

      Delete
    2. can you give a possible routine

    3. Routines etc vary greatly.
      Do it yourself

  15. well...just out of curiosity..as i'v nvr got this opportunity before... what do u think is the main diff. b/w a legendary AIR 1 and any other super awesome top 50 rank(for eg. U...) in iit-jee(adv)?.. Is it about knowledge..??(as there was a diff. of about 40 marks b/w AIR 1 AND AIR 50 this time).. or is it about exam temperament/luck...? we guys,as aspirant have all our theories in place so
just wanted to knw this from a top ranker POV and break the ice.. thank u.!!

    1. definitely there is a good amount of difference in intelligence.
For example, here also in IIT Bombay, sai sandeep is doing pretty good.
Infact, Ravi Chandra (AIR 2 JEE 2013) is a 10 pointer and department topper.
As far as I am able to interpret, these are something that I found people(who have better rank than me) have which I don't have(or I lack) :
1.) Extremely high IQ - air 1 and 3 are good examples
      2.) Brilliant time management - air 2
3.) dedication - many of them
4.) hard working - again many of them

      Everyone has his/her own methodology.
I was in 33rd position in JEE.
But here I am fortunately in second position in IIT Bombay (CSE Dept.)
      The type of course matters.
For example : I was weak in chemistry but here I got highest grade in it.
I was good at programming but here I couldn't do well.

In all, there are various factors (besides examination temperament) that distinguish the JEE top rankers.
In the end, I am in my institute and the desired department so 33 hardly matters to me.
Get inside IIT and no-one cares what your rank is.
Professors will not care what rank you are. They just think that JEE is rote learning and no concepts are taught till +2 level.
The professor teaching us doesn't even know that we are CS guys :P

      Delete
    2. Seriously!!!! Professors in IIT Bombay think that JEE is rote learning and no concepts are taught till +2 level. So Strange!!!

      Delete
    3. 100 percent true.
They think that we just know how to "tick". We have no real understanding of the concepts and we are just beginners in the field with very little knowledge.
They call JEE as a "rat race" where there are 2 kinds of rats :
      winner rats and
      loser rats.
But they are rats only and nothing else.
And now I have realized that they are indeed true

      Delete
    4. not completely true... :O... tats fr sure...

  20. Engineering drawing? do you have to draw even in CSE course? I was thinking that there will be no drawing in CSE atleast!

You also say you study organic chem. But why in CSE?

    ReplyDelete
  21. Another question: It is true that having too many books is useless. According to you, how many books are too many(for 2 whole years of 11th & 12th?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Unfortunately yes, we have to bear engineering drawing and chemistry.
There are certain common courses in the first year and the students of all the departments have to study those courses.
Coming to the point, yes it's useless to have multiple books for JEE. It's a waste of time. There is no need to study the same topic again and again. 2 books are enough

  22. For a non CS background student(who doesn't even knows the P of Programming)...how hard can it be for him to adjust in the CSE department of IITs?and 1 more thing....did u predict ur score in JEE Advanced before results came out?

    Replies
    1. well I think answer of first question is not required at this stage.
      Focus on your jee preparation
Yes, my jee advanced score had been predicted already
